The Toll-Gate

I started The Toll-Gate, a Regency comedy-of-manners by Georgette Heyer, on Sunday, and finished it this morning.

This is fun enough, but is rightfully way down any list of the best Heyer novels. While we get to know the male lead well enough, his lady is not fleshed out much at all, and the dialog is too full of the lost language of the early 19th century English lower class. The mystery is quite interesting, and the resolution is only slightly contrived.
